Fibernet, awarded for its support to photonic technology at the 2nd Data Center Innovation Awards 2104
The firm support to photonic technology developed by Fibernet has been awarded at the 2nd edition of the Data Center Innovation Awards in the Support to Cutting-Edge Technologies category.
Data Center Market has awarded Fibernet in the 2nd editiom of the Data Center Innovation Awards CPD 2014 in the Support to Cutting-Edge Technologies category for its investment in photonic technology research.
Fibernet, a Spanish company specialized in the development and manufacture of high-tech products in the field of fiber-optic communications in network and telecommunications applications, has decidedly bet on photonic technology for its next projects.
Fibernet is also one of the most active companies in the field of photonics; a good indicator of this is the recent acquisition of Fibernova, a Valencian start-up specialized in photonic and radiofrequency technology for the telecommunications industry, with a center in Valencia for the design, assembly and manufacture of photonic circuits, unique in Spain.
Fibernet acquired 50% of Fibernova, a spin-off of the Center of Nanophonic Technology of the Technical University of Valencia, specialized in photonic and radiofrequency technology for the telecommunications industry.
Photonics is the technology of the future y and the natural step after electronics, as it is better than electronics in terms of energy use, speed, size and performance. Fibernet’s investment in Fibernova can be explained by the huge development potential of photonic technology in Spain and worldwide. Nowadays, there are very few centers in Europe that have nanophotonic technology at their disposal, and one of them is where Fibernova is developing its products in Valencia.
Photonics will be the key of design in the next years. Europe is well positioned in very important photonics development segments such as technology for the production of laser and lithographic systems, optical components and systems, calibration and automation, medical technology, life sciences and security and defense systems. In 2005, photonics world market amounted to 228 billion Euros. With a sustained annual growth forecast about 8%, it is expected to reach a total market turnover of 439 billion Euros in 2015.
According to the European Union, this kind of development has been recognized as one of the five future key technologies (KET, Key Enabling Technologies), predicting an investment within research framework programs of 1.795 billion Euros during the period 2015-2020. This way, photonics will be the technology of the future and a natural step after electronics.
INNOVATION IN FIBERNET’S DNA
Fibernet is a Spanish company incorporated in 1998, dedicated to the development and manufacture of in-house developed high-tech products in the field of fiber-optic communications in network and telecommunications applications (DWDM technology and its Disaster Recovery applications).
The investment in photonics has not been the Fibernet’s only bet on innovative areas:
- They invest more than 30% of its sales in the development of in-house technology for fiber-optic communications.
- They have their own R&D department.
- They also offer hosting and outsourcing service in their own data center and design, construction, adaptation and maintenance services for data centers and their associated systems.
- IBM has certified their DUSAC 4800 platforms for Parallel Sysplex and Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS) environments in zEnterprise EC12 (zEC12), zEnterprise BC12 (zBC12), zEnterprise 196 (z196), zEnterprise 114 (z114), zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension (zBX), System z10 (z10 EC, z10 BC) and System z9 (z9 EC, z9 BC) servers.
Thanks to their effort in R&D, Fibernet has a cutting-edge in-house technology, with references in more than 50% of IBEX35 companies, and a strong presence in financial and Public Administration organizations.
