This way, all the buildings of the FNOB and the Barcelona World Race will be connected in a diversified manner and compeltely redounded with the data center ".
In the words of Esther Gómez, General Manager of Fibernet: "This is global-impact events where technology and sports are perfectly imbricated. As a Spanish technological company, it is a pride that our communications equipment comes into play to provide the infrastructure of the Barcelona World Race with a high capacity and availability network to transport the huge amount of data generated before and during the race. This is a great opportunity to make ourselves known in a slightly different field and another way to express our interest in adding value to the Information Society".
About the Barcelona World Race
The Barcelona World Race is the only double-handed, non-stop, round the world race. It is part of the IMOCA Masters World Championship. It was created by Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona (FNOB) and is their flagship project. In just two editions (2007/08 and 2010/11) the competition has established itself as an international benchmark for ocean sailing.
In addition to the event's sporting prestige, the Barcelona World Race is a magnificent visibility platform for the FNOB's numerous initiatives and projects. Since 2005, when the foundation was set up with the support of its patrons; Barcelona City Council, the Exhibition Centre, the Port Authorities and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, it has been heavily involved in developing and promoting socioeconomic activities connected to sport, industry and the key values of sailing along four key lines: R+D, Education and Knowledge, Science and Technology and the Environment.
The third edition of the regatta sets off on 31st December 2014. The pontoons of the boats, situated at the bottom of the Ramblas, at the base of the statue of Columbus, will be officially opened on 12th December.
