Fibernet connects data centers among them and internally
The company states that data centers are becoming more and more dependent of the bandwidth and suggests “intra-center” and “inter-center” solutions.
Spanish multinational Fibernet, specialized in optical connectivity systems and about to reach 16 years of experience in the market, warns about the exponential increase of Internet traffic we are witnessing in the last decade, which involves a mass consumption of bandwidth (especially fiber optic at data centers); this may lead the industry to equip itself with the appropriate technology to attend the companies’ needs.
Given its experience in fiber-optic equipment, Fibernet has grown together with the datacenter market; “actually, data centers are our main market niche, as more than 50% of the data centers of IBEX35 companies are connected with our technology. The clients we work with are mainly from the Finance, Insurance and Public Administration sectors. I can claim that our technology is present in 80% of the main data centers of this country”, said Esther Gómez, Fibernet’s CEO.
The company started in 1998 with DWDM technology and its DUSAC systems and, nowadays, it has more than 20,000 optical channels installed and a very wide range of equipment and services, such as signal adaptors, data center connection through fiber with remote platforms to make automatic assignations of connections (this is, remote automatic assignment of physical resources), real-time provisioning, high-capacity connectivity lines (40 Gbps, 100 Gbps, etcetera) and even security both in terms of coding and encryption and of fiber integrity through custody and supervision.
At present, Fibernet is working in connecting with fiber and other associated equipment some data centers to others, which they call internally "inter-center" connection, and they are also connecting the data center itself, an operation called "intra-center" connection.
A third-party data center
Even if the bulk of their business is based on optical equipment for business data centers since 2009, Fibernet also has a data center equipped to offer third-party services. The data center is located at the ground floor of Fibernet’s premises in Madrid and has a 250-m2 technical room that harbors six clients, such as the Official Credit Institute (ICO) and the Bank of Spain, that use the premises as a support data center; “they all have a self-owned primary data center and they have hired our disaster recovery services; here we offer them our infrastructure and equipment and assure them that, in case that their data center fails, they will find here the support they need”, explains Antonio Gorrachategui, manager of the data center business line, Fibernet.
The company closed recently an agreement with a new company “specialized in Internet and mobile payment systems that will settle here and has chosen us as their main center”, added Gorrachategui.
The data center is connected to operators such as ONO, Jazztel, Correos Telecom and Telefónica within the facilities, although many operators reach the technology park where the data center is placed and “we can connect them if the client asks as to do so”. The center has cold corridor and hot corridor areas; the electric system has been prepared underground and the cable system on the ceiling.
